Landscape simplification increases Bactrocera oleae abundance in olive groves: adult population dynamics in different land uses

Abstract Bactrocera oleae is the main pest in olive groves, and its management requires a sustainable perspective to reduce use of chemical products. Landscape context being considered as an important driver reduction, but results on B. show inconsistency date. Most landscape-pest control studies focus dynamics pests within focal crop, ignoring these other land uses. Here we present study which analyze seasonal population most uses typical landscape Portugal. We found that all are very similar those groves. However, presence did not display any increase abundance In contrast, mainly composed by groves increased this pest. Importantly, more diverse landscapes surrounding fly. Based findings, can conclude studied does imply Indeed, promote diversification reduction populations thus encourage stakeholders around their farms promoting/restoring crops/habitats.
